Into the Water By: Paula Hawkins Mini Review

The very, very beginning of Into the Water was a bit confusing for me, but after that the book was pretty good. I liked this one more than The Girl on the Train to be honest. In my opinion both books are not anything exceptionally different for a thriller. However, I did enjoy Into the Water and the very end had an unexpected twist and I always appreciate that. I do wish there had been at least one likeable character though. I don't think a book HAS to have a likeable character, but I feel like it's getting a bit stale in thrillers to have all unlikeable characters.
#GoodTwistButNotUniqueEnough

Overall I was entertained by Into the Water and that's really all I can ask for in a book. It's worth a read, but don't expect anything extremely unique. Most of the book is predictable and it's a slow burn. The twist is what bumped it up from a 3 star to a 4 star read for me. If you're a thriller fan I would recommend giving this one a try!

Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Books I Meant To Get To In 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic this week is Top Ten Books I Meant To Get To In 2017. I sure do have plenty of those for a list, but I narrowed it down to ten and hopefully I will get to them all this year!

*Click on the covers to view on Goodreads.*

1. Beautiful Broken Girls

2. Throne of Fire

3. The Hammer of Thor

4. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

5. Strange the Dreamer

6. The Crown's Fate

7. Inside the Victorian Home

8. The Guest Room

9. The Shadow of the Wind

10. The Dark Lake

Here's a picture with some of the books on my list and a few of the other books (including re-reads) that I want to get to ASAP. Also, I may have bought a few books that are now on the top of my TBR list too.

Anyway, I'll do a book haul post later in the week or next week and I think at that time I'll make a complete TBR list that I will do my best not to deviate from. I need help and an intervention obviously! LOL!

That's it for my Top Ten Books I Meant To Get To In 2017! What is on the top of your list that you didn't get to in 2017? Also, do you have plans to get to them ASAP or just whenever you get around to it? Oh, and does anyone have any good tips to help stick to a TBR?

Now I Rise (The Conqueror's Saga #2) By: Kiersten White Mini Review

I really enjoyed reading Now I Rise, but I didn't love it quite as much as And I Darken. Since I loved the first book so much I couldn't wait to start this one and see what happens next to the Dracul siblings. The story is terrific, however I struggled to stay focused around the middle mark. I found myself a tad bored and frustrated with it for a short time until the pace picked back up again.
#PacingIssueMidway

The best thing about this series for me is Lada and how ferocious she is. I liked her even more so in this book. I just adore how she is not your stereotypical female character. She is not going to wear a dress, she doesn't care how her hair looks, but she certainly kicks butt! I also love Radu's storyline and the struggles he faces with his feelings and loyalties.
#LadaKicksButt

Overall I did like Now I Rise quite a bit, despite the minor pacing issue for me around the middle. This series is spectacular and I love how dark it is. I definitely recommend it and I can't wait for book three. I'm dying to see how things will go...I hope it's dreadfully brutal and bloody.

2018 Beginning of the Year TBR!!

TBR Time!!

I'm terrible at sticking to my TBR lists, but regardless I have made one for the beginning of the year. Hopefully, I stick to it for once. That being said I did just order some more books on Amazon, so who knows what will happen. EEK. I need help obviously. :P

Here are the eight books (not in any particular order) that I PLAN to read immediately:

**Click on the pictures to view on Goodreads.**

1. The Dark Lake- I got this book in the one month of BOTM that I did and I really should read it already.

2. Hunting Prince Dracula- I'm currently reading this one and absolutely loving it so far!

3. The Bell Jar (Re-Read)- It's definitely time for me to read this book again. It's one of my favorites and it's been a while. Oh, and honestly I've only read it once. I'm way overdue for a re-read!

4. The Shadow of the Wind- I have heard nothing but good things about this one and it sounds right up my alley!

5. The Throne of Fire- My 10 year old son Jordan loves this series and he's been waiting somewhat patiently for me to get to this already so we can talk about it.

6. Knight's Cross- Well this is definitely not a typical read for me, but my boo thing really likes it. So I decided to add it to my TBR of course, you know broaden my horizons and all that.

7. Beautiful Broken Girls- This is the one that really makes me want to hang my head in shame. I pre-ordered it and I still have yet to read it. I don't ever pre-order books so if I do then I should probably read it immediately!

8. The Hammer of Thor- My other 10 year old son Justin has been waiting very IMPATIENTLY for me to get to this one so we can discuss it!

Have you read any of these books, if so what did you think of them?

Do you have a TBR list that you're going to try and stick to for the beginning of 2018? If so, what books are on it?

Oh, and am I the only one that can't believe it's 2018 already? I'm not sad to see 2017 go, but whew it did go by fast!

Top Ten Tuesday- Top FIVE New To Me Authors I Read In 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic this week is Top Ten New To Me Authors I Read In 2017! I didn't read very many new authors this year that I just LOVED so I made this a top five list instead.

1. Ruth Ware - I read The Woman In Cabin 10 early on in the year and I just LOVED it. I bought her other two books The Lying Game and In a Dark, Dark Wood later in the year and I read those back to back. I enjoyed both of them as well, but The Woman In Cabin 10 is definitely my favorite of the three. I can't wait for her to come out with more books. She is going to be an auto-buy author for me.

2. Sarah Pinborough - So... my bestie had been telling me for a long time that I just HAD to read Behind Her Eyes. I put it off for a while because I wasn't that intrigued to be honest. Well I wish I had read it sooner!! I think this was my favorite read of the year. I also read 13 Minutes by her and I enjoyed it as well, but the twist in Behind Her Eyes just completely blew my mind.

3. Grady Hendrix- I was absolutely enamored with My Best Friend's Exorcism. I need to try to buy and read Horrorstor by him this year! I can't wait to see what I think of that one. I hope I will like it just as much.

4. Ania Ahlborn - The Devil Crept In was SO GOOD!! I know she has a few more books and I would love to give at least one other of hers a try this year as well.

5. B.A. Paris - I was hesitant to add B.A. Paris on here to be honest. Behind Closed Doors was one of my favorite reads in 2017. However, I also read The Breakdown and it was more like The Letdown. I gave that one only two stars, but I know the next book she comes out with I would for sure give it a shot at least.

That's it for my Top FIVE New To Me Authors I Read In 2017! I am very happy that I tried these authors this year and I look forward to reading more of their books in the future.

Have you read any of these authors? If so, what did you think? Who were your top new to you authors that you read this year?
